James Bridges has been involved in the design, development and support of engineering software for more than 30 years.
He founded Knowledge Systems in 1985, guided in its focus on geopressure analysis by senior management at several major oil companies. These experts confirmed that quantification of formation pressures (geopressures) prior to and while drilling was a major challenge, with failures in this area costing the industry several billion dollars a year in lost time and lost wells.
Success in resolving these geopressure challenges led to rapid growth, as evidenced by Knowledge Systems' listings in the Houston Fast Tech 50 and Houston 100. The Company is characterized by unique products and services with dominant market share, strong customer loyalty and satisfaction, and high employee satisfaction.
Bridges is actively involved in advancing industry safety and efficiency. He has conceived and managed many industry consortium projects that have resulted in new methodologies and best practices for drilling wells safely and economically in deep water. The most recent project, funded by 21 top industry companies, was the second phase of a two-year project to develop and improve methodology for predicting geopressures for wells drilled in deep water.
He is the author of numerous magazine articles and technical papers, and is a frequent speaker at industry technical conferences and forums.
Bridges believes that important keys to success are company operation on biblical principles and selection of talented and effective managers who can motivate employees and work together as a team. He is a strong advocate of funding company growth with positive cash flow and both software companies he has founded and managed have grown to multi-million dollar enterprises with minimal starting capital.
