James Edwards is Dean of the University of South Carolina Union Campus.
Mr. Edwards professional career began at the University of Georgia as Assistant Director of Public Relations and News Bureau. He then moved to Tucker Wayne and Company an Advertising and Public Relations Agency as an Account Executive. In 1965 Mr. Edwards worked for Science Research Associate a subsidiary of IBM as a College Associate. In 1971 he was an Account Executive and Marketing Consultant for Stein Educational Division.
In 1975 Mr. Edwards joined Tennessee Technological University as Assistant Vice President for Development and Assistant to the President until 1983. From Tennessee he moved to the Florida State University Foundation as Director of Major Giving until 1985. Mr. Edwards was the Director of Development and Executive Director of the MSU Foundation from 1985 to 1987 at Mississippi State University. In 1987 Mr. Edwards became the Vice President of Development at the University of South Carolina-Columbia.
Mr. Edwards received a B.A. in Communications (radio & TV) from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1961. He has also completed Post Graduate Studies in Journalism at the University of Georgia from 1962 to 1964 and Tennessee Technological University with an M.A. in Education Administration in 1983.
Mr. Edwards� civic and professional activities include being a member of the Lions Club International where he has held all club level offices and a member of the Rotary Club. He has served on the Lexington County School District 5 School Improvement Council the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and was Chairman of the Stewardship Committee at Ashland United Methodist Church. Also Mr. Edwards has served on the YMCA Board the Union County Development Board South Carolina Cultural Council the Union County Chamber of Commerce is past president of the Union County United Way and now serves on the City of Union Centennial Committee Union/Laurens Commission on Higher Education SC Cultural Visions Council and is on the Planning Committee for the Governor�s Council on Youth and Department of Juvenile Justice.
