In addition to his work with Goldmark, Mr. Pharo maintains an active legal and business affairs practice providing legal and strategic advice to a variety of small and mid-sized advertising, media and publishing companies. Previously, Mr. Pharo served as the Chief Operating Officer of The Lord Group, a full-service marketing communications agency that was a co-venture of Young & Rubicam and Japanese ad giant Dentsu. In that role, Mr. Pharo supervised a staff of 23 in the Finance, Facilities, HR and Administrative Departments, and was responsible for an operational turn-around that resulted in world-class margin improvements. Prior to his work at The Lord Group, Mr. Pharo was the chief marketing and advertising legal advisor to Y&R. In addition to leading the company�s intellectual property work, he handled dozens of global agency-client deals, as well as numerous M&A transactions, including two Internet roll-ups. He was also instrumental in the firm�s successful entrance into on-line advertising. Mr. Pharo began his career at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, one of the world�s leading M&A and corporate law firms. From there, Mr. Pharo joined the legal staff at American Express, where he became that firm�s first global Advertising Counsel, responsible for all legal aspects of the firm�s marketing and advertising, including contractual relations with the firm�s external marketing communications partners. Mr. Pharo is a magna cum laude graduate of the Cardozo School of Law, where he served as Executive Editor of the Law Review and won the Felix Frankfurter Prize, and is a Dean�s List graduate of the University of Rochester.
