Dr. Demers joined Kenyon as an associate in the New York office at the end of 2007. Prior to joining Kenyon, he worked as a patent agent at a major New York intellectual property law firm, and as a patent attorney at a New York general practice law firm. Dr. Demers has experience in drafting and prosecuting chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and nanotechnology patent applications, in the preparation of legal opinions, and in client counseling regarding the acquisition and management of intellectual property.
Prior to embarking on a legal career, James had been a Visiting Research Fellow at Princeton University, and prior to that he had been a medicinal chemist for twelve years, and served as a research team leader, for a major United States pharmaceutical corporation. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University, and did post-doctoral work at Columbia University and the University of California, Berkeley. He subsequently earned a Master's degree in Management of Technology from Polytechnic University, and attended the Fordham University School of Law, where he received his J.D. degree in 2002. |
