James Socas serves as senior vice president of Corporate Development, leading Symantec's mergers & acquisition practice, corporate venture investing, and strategic financial and technology alliances. He is focused on positioning Symantec to capitalize on both the consolidation within the software industry and technology-driven business transformations taking place around the world.
Prior to joining Symantec, Socas served as the company's advisor on several strategic initiatives including the acquisition of AXENT Technologies in 2000, which served as the catalyst for Symantec's move into the enterprise software market. In addition to his senior positions at leading investment-banking firms, Socas has also worked as a software entrepreneur and has served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.
