As executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Symantec Janice Chaffin provides strategic direction and ensures solid execution for all communications and marketing around the world. She leads a global team responsible for product and solutions marketing field and channel marketing branding advertising marketing communications public relations and industry analyst relations. She also oversees the corporate strategy development process and customer experience initiatives. As Symantec�s first CMO Chaffin established the marketing organization and processes necessary to support the company�s multibillion dollar consumer and enterprise businesses.
Prior to Symantec Chaffin spent 21 years at Hewlett-Packard (HP) and has a proven track record in marketing and general management. She created the Enterprise Marketing and Solutions organization through the merger with Compaq. Before that she established the HP Solutions organization which included software development labs in the U.S. and India along with responsibility for industry verticals and enterprise strategic alliances.
As a founding member of HP�s Unix server business unit Chaffin played a key role in building a multi-billion dollar business over a decade. As vice president and general manager she successfully refocused the technical server business achieved segment market leadership and brought the first mainframe class systems to market.
Chaffin graduated summa cum laude from the University of California San Diego. She earned a master�s degree in business administration from the University of California Los Angeles where she was a Henry Ford Scholar.
She serves on the board of Informatica Corporation and also is a member of the CMO Council Advisory Board and the Industry Advisory Board for the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. The San Jose Business Journal named Janice Chaffin a 2005 Women of Distinction Finalist in the Marketing/PR/Advertising Category. She is also a patroness of the National Charities League and is a past recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Women in Industry award. |
