Before retiring to a farm with dogs and horses (Missouri fox trotters) in south central Missouri, Stewart spent more than 25 years as an attorney in public service in Alaska. She lived and traveled throughout Alaska, working in both the executive branch and the judicial branch as a magistrate, a judicial educator, and a rural prosecutor. She has extensive experience in drafting legislation, regulations, and court rules, in grant work, and in developing public education materials on public health topics such as child welfare, delinquency, child support, mental health, and substance abuse. Most recently she was a criminal justice planner for the Alaska Department of Public Safety, and she chaired the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. She also has been a public speaker on legal issues related to her work. Her recreational activities include textile arts (sewing, weaving, and felting), film, nonfiction writing, and reading. |
