Jean Mandeville, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Global Crossing Limited, joined Global Crossing in February 2005 and is responsible for all of the company's financial operations, including finance, accounting, treasury, tax, procurement and investor relations.
Mr. Mandeville previously served as the chief financial officer of Singapore Technologies Telemedia (ST Telemedia), where his key objectives were to maximize shareholder value of ST Telemedia's existing investments and develop its business through mergers and acquisitions. Under his watch, ST Telemedia secured its first five-year syndicated loan of $480 million, completed a successful investment in Equinix and oversaw merger and acquisition activities of its Equinix and TeleChoice international subsidiaries. Mr. Mandeville also negotiated the acquisition of a controlling stake in Indosat, Indonesia's largest international telephone carrier and second largest mobile carrier, enabling ST Telemedia to become a major player in the rapidly growing Indonesian cellular market. In addition, Mr. Mandeville facilitated the IPO of StarHub, Singapore's second telephony operator, in 2004.
In addition to those responsibilities, Mr. Mandeville played a lead role in ST Telemedia's investment in Global Crossing and was involved in the company's business realignment initiatives. This intimate knowledge and experience has prepared him to take a prominent role as CFO of Global Crossing.
Prior to his tenure at ST Telemedia, Mr. Mandeville's professional achievements included several senior positions in telecommunications, finance, education and research, transport and maritime. He has more than 15 years' experience in finance and telecommunications alone. As head of business planning for British Telecom (BT) Europe, he oversaw the development of BT's entry strategy for European telecommunications markets. Mr. Mandeville served in various other capacities at BT and was appointed president of BT Asia Pacific in 2000, where his key objective was to maximize shareholder value of BT's joint-venture operations in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and India. During his tenure at BT Asia Pacific, Mr. Mandeville oversaw a significant turnaround in business operations. He also served as project director for BT Business Development Germany, where he led the negotiations for BT's $5 billion participation in a joint venture with Viag InterKom and served as secretary to the board of directors.
Prior to joining BT, Mr. Mandeville was a senior consultant with Coopers & Lybrand, Belgium, and a senior executive with Agence Maritime Internationale, which specialized in transport services to and from Central and Southern Africa.
Mr. Mandeville received a license in applied economics and a special degree in sea law from the University Saint-Ignatius Antwerp. He also attended the Stanford Senior Executive Program in 1996 and has accumulated numerous post-graduate achievements in general management, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, strategy, financial and marketing management, and economics. He is an associate fellow of the Centre of Management Sciences of the University Saint-Ignatius Antwerp.
Born in Belgium, Mr. Mandeville served as a Belgian Navy reserve officer and acted as deputy to the director of finance.
