Jeffrey Chapman is a partner in the Firm's Litigation Group. Mr. Chapman has a broad litigation practice that includes antitrust and securities litigation, and white-collar criminal defense and investigations, and regulatory enforcement matters. Mr. Chapman's civil practice focuses on complex securities and antitrust litigation. He has represented prominent corporations and financial institutions including Microsoft, The Bank of New York and Cablevision in class action and securities litigation matters. Mr. Chapman also has extensive experience representing clients in criminal and regulatory investigations. He has represented financial institutions and other corporations in numerous grand jury and regulatory investigations, as well as individual subjects in a wide array of investigations, prosecutions and enforcement proceedings. Selected Civil Cases Represents Microsoft in its defense of private antitrust damages actions around the country brought by both consumers and competitors following the Department of Justice's antitrust case United States v. Microsoft. Mr. Chapman was a member of the team that achieved a favorable settlement for Microsoft following a three-month jury trial in Des Moines, Iowa. Successfully defended Banco Popular in an action arising out of claims for defamation and slander based on reports the bank made to regulatory authorities concerning suspicious customer activity. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit affirmed the district court's dismissal of the action on summary judgment based on the safe harbor provisions for reporting suspicious activity under the Annunzio-Wiley Anti-Money Laundering Act. Obtained the dismissal on summary judgment of an action alleging RICO and tort-related claims against a prominent executive of a medical device manufacturer in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Selected Criminal and Regulatory Cases Represented Pershing LLC in market timing investigations by the SEC, NASD and the New York Attorney General. Also counsel to Pershing in related multi-district litigation, achieving the dismissal of Pershing from several securities class action lawsuits. Handled the resolution of government investigations on behalf of The Bank of New York, Spiegel, Inc., Moody's and other individuals and companies. Conducted many internal investigations for corporations, financial institutions and audit committees.
