Jeffrey Widman has aggressively and successfully represented his clients at both the trial and appellate levels in diverse areas of law. His commercial litigation practice focuses on breach of contract claims, the U.C.C., fraud claims, products and premises liability claims, officer and director liability and labor and employment disputes. In the bankruptcy arena, he has tried numerous cases on behalf of debtors, trustees and creditors, including fraudulent conveyance claims as well as disputes over the validity and priority of claims. He also represents companies and owners in shareholder disputes involving breach of fiduciary duty claims.
Mr. Widman has a wide variety of clients, including several Fortune 500 companies, printing companies, venture capital firms, automobile dealers, manufacturers, retailers, and various hotels.
His recent successes include:
A $2.7 million judgment in favor of a bankruptcy trustee of an aluminum manufacturing company against the debtor's former CEO on fraudulent conveyance and breach of fiduciary duty claims.
A $1.1 million judgment in favor of an asset management and liquidation firm in a dispute over the entitlement to certain assets being held by the Trustee for the estate of a former retailer.
The Seventh Circuit affirming summary judgment for a commercial real estate company on a retaliation claim brought by a former employee who claimed he was discharged for purported whistleblowing activities.
Judgment in favor of an automobile dealer against a telecommunications company for common law fraud and violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Widman has participated in annual negotiation sessions for Northwestern University School of Law and served as a judge for the DePaul Law School Moot Court Competition. He is also a member of the American Bar Association.
