Jeffrey S. Reed is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm's New York office. He is a member of the Tax Department and focuses his practice on state and local taxation.
Prior to joining McDermott, Jeff was a tax litigation counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, where he presented arguments before the Appellate Tax Board and negotiated settlements with taxpayers and their counsel.
Jeff has tax controversy experience at the audit, administrative and appeals level in several jurisdictions. His planning experience includes providing advice on the state tax effects of mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and ongoing business operations. He has also assisted clients in obtaining letter rulings in several states.
Jeff has authored or co-authored articles for publications such as State Tax Notes, Inside New York Taxes, and The State and Local Tax Lawyer (forthcoming). He has drafted course materials for conferences such as the New York University Summer Institute for State and Local Taxation, and the Georgetown Advanced State and Local Tax Institute.
During the 1999-2000 academic year, Jeff attended St Catherine's College, Oxford University, where he studied International Relations and English Literature as a visiting student.
Jeff is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts.
