Before joining Dykema, Mr. Deane was a partner with Wilion, Kirkwood, Hoffman & Deane in Los Angeles where he was panel counsel for a major insurance carrier, and successfully defended corporate officers and directors, nonprofit corporations, and homeowner associations in planned developments, primarily in employment and fiduciary duty cases. Prior to that time, Mr. Deane was a member of nationally recognized law firms in San Francisco and Los Angeles, where he represented attorneys and health care providers in malpractice actions, and handled complex cases in multi-party and multi-district litigation involving donated blood and transfusion or hemophilia-associated AIDS, breast implants, pharmaceuticals, and other consumer or medical products. In 1988, Mr. Deane second-chaired the first transfusion-associated AIDS case to reach trial and jury verdict in California.
