Jennifer T. Barrett is responsible for oversight of Acxiom Corporation�s global public policy, privacy and information practices as the Company�s global privacy leader. In this capacity, she provides direction for Acxiom�s information use policy across all global operations, internal compliance with legal regulations and industry guidelines, consumer affairs, government affairs and related public relations. She also consults with clients on various information practices and regulatory issues.
Jennifer joined Acxiom in 1974 after receiving a degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked in almost every facet of the Company, from systems development and operations to marketing and business development. In 1981 Jennifer became a vice president and has served in an executive capacity ever since. Since 1991, she has guided Acxiom�s initiatives to safeguard consumer privacy.
She has been extremely active domestically and internationally in the area of appropriate information practices. Jennifer has extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state laws governing the use of information. She is sought out by both policy makers and regulators for her views on the effective use of personal information. In addition, Jennifer has worked with all of Acxiom�s non-U.S. operations in Canada, Europe and Asia and has participated in a variety of international efforts to achieve harmonization of information practices around the world.
Jennifer is a frequent speaker on privacy and customer relationship management and has also published numerous articles and participated in writing books on these subjects. She is a regular speaker on best practices regarding personal information in a variety of industries, including financial services, retail, insurance, publishing, and travel and entertainment, both domestically and abroad. Jennifer has testified several times before Congress and serves on a variety of industry boards. These include boards and councils of the Direct Marketing Association such as the Safe Harbor Ethics Committee, the DMA Political Action Committee and the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. She was recently appointed chair of the DMA Committee on Social Responsibility and sits on the Executive Committee of the Center for Information Policy Leadership and Information Policy Institute. She is also a member of the Chancellor�s Council and the College of Natural Science Foundation Advisory Council at the University of Texas. |
