Jeremiah Washburn is in his 2nd year as the Ravens' area scout for the Southwest. Washburn, who spent 2 seasons (2003-04) with the team as a player personnel assistant, covers schools from the Big 12, SEC, WAC and Conference-USA. Last spring, Baltimore selected G/C Chris Chester (2nd round, Oklahoma), TE Quinn Sypniewski (5th, Colorado), P Sam Koch (6th, Nebraska) and CB Derrick Martin (6th, Wyoming) in the NFL Draft, all of whom were from Washburn's area.
Prior to his appointment as area scout, Jeremiah's duties with the team included assisting in pro scouting (some advance scouting of upcoming opponents, unrestricted free agents, NFL Europe and other free agents), and assisting college scouting director Eric DeCosta in preparation for the NFL Draft by doing cross checks for schools on the East Coast.
Washburn, who started his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers as a football operations assistant (2002), was a 2-year graduate assistant for the Arkansas athletic department while earning his MBA. He was a 3-year OG for the Razorbacks' offensive line. An international economics major, Washburn attended Shelby (NC) HS.
Jeremiah's father, Jim, has been the Tennessee Titans' defensive line coach for the last 8 years. Jeremiah and his wife, Susan, live with their 4-year-old daughter, Ally, and their son, Andrew (2), in Frisco, TX. |
