Kern has been the President of Kern Consulting, LLC since 2001, and also serves as the Chairman of Symphony Media Systems, LLC. Prior to that, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of On Command Corporation. Prior to his position at On Command, he served as Vice Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors of Tele-Communications, Inc. (TCI). For more than 20 years, Kern was the principal outside legal counsel to TCI and Liberty Media Corporation (Liberty Media), including from 1992 to 1998, when he served as senior partner of Baker & Botts, L.L.P. He is on the boards of Volunteers of America (Colorado Chapter) and the New York Philharmonic. He also serves as Chairman of the Institute for Children's Mental Disorders and is Co-Chairman of Board of Trustees for the Colorado Symphony Association. He is a trustee of City Meals-on-Wheels in New York and a trustee of the New York University School of Law Foundation.
