Dr. Vaccaro has been president and chief executive officer of PacifiCare Behavioral Health, Inc. (PBH), since 2001. During his tenure, the company has experienced strong membership growth (18 percent average annual rate) while establishing itself as an industry leader in service and clinical performance.
From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Vaccaro was PBH's vice president and corporate medical director, and from 1996 to 1998 he was PBH's medical director. During this period, Dr. Vaccaro oversaw PBH's initial NCQA accreditation (2000) and launch of ALERT, PBH's unique clinical risk-detection and outcomes management system (1999).
Prior to joining PBH, Dr. Vaccaro developed an integrated clinical service, rehabilitation and medical education program as director of Community Psychiatry Programs at UCLA (1989-1996), where he also was an architect of numerous private and public sector joint ventures. As director of Community Psychiatry for the University of Hawaii (1985-1989), Dr. Vaccaro designed and supervised operations for a range of UH-affiliated psychiatry programs and established a new private, not-for-profit mental health center that experienced dramatic growth under his stewardship.
As a recognized industry authority, Dr. Vaccaro is the author of Practicing Psychiatry in the Community, published by American Psychiatric Press Inc. in 1996. The textbook is hailed as the definitive text in community psychiatry.
Dr. Vaccaro is a licensed physician, board-certified psychiatrist and associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Vaccaro holds an undergraduate degree from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, and an M.D. degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York City. |
