Judge Jerry M. Barr is the former Judge of Hamilton Superior Court No. 2, located in Hamilton County, Indiana. Judge Barr was appointed as the first judge of the Court by Governor Otis Bowen in 1979, was elected in 1980, and reelected thereafter in 1986, 1992, and 1998 without opposition. He presided over many of the major criminal and civil trials occurring in the County during his tenure.
Judge Barr attended Noblesville Schools, and is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana and the United States District Court, Southern District of Indiana in 1967, and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1979. He is also a 1985 graduate of the Indiana Judicial College. Before assuming the Superior Court Bench, Judge Barr served as Attorney for the Towns of Cicero and Atlanta, several Township Trustees, the Hamilton County Park and Recreation Board, and other entities. He also served as Hamilton County Deputy Prosecutor in 1968 and as Judge of the Noblesville City Court from 1972-1974.
During his professional career, Judge Barr has served on the Board of Directors of the Judicial Conference of Indiana, on the Board of Managers of the Indiana Judge's Association, Chair of the Probate Committee of the Judicial Conference, President of the Hamilton County Bar Association, Fellow and member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Bar Foundation, as well as a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Judicature Society.
In addition to his professional career, he has been active in various civic and community endeavors. He was an early member and officer of the Hamilton County Park and Recreation Board, a member of the Noblesville (now Hamilton East) Library Board, Member and first Chair of the Hamilton County Progress Committee, and long-time member of the Noblesville Chamber of Commerce, Past-president of the Noblesville Kiwanis Club, former Lay Leader of the First United Methodist Church of Noblesville, and a member of the Yale Club of Indiana, the Hamilton County GOP Breakfast Club, and League of Women Voters of Hamilton County. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Landmark Financial Corporation, Landmark Savings Bank, and Landmark Mortgage Company, and is a Life Member of the Board of Directors of the Crossroads of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.
ADR Training:
Judge Barr completed Civil Mediation Training and has participated in various Alternative Dispute Resolution courses through the Judicial Conference of Indiana. Judge Barr is a Registered Mediator in Indiana and is on the Roster of Private Judges of the Indiana Supreme Court.
