Mr. Bird joined MTDC in 2005. Over the past eight years, he has worked closely with the MTDC staff in four co-investments. He has over 19 years of investing and financial experience. Most recently, Mr. Bird was a partner at Brook Venture Partners and Nova MedVentures. Prior to that, he was President of Boston-based Claflin Capital Management which he joined as a general partner in 1996 and was a general partner of the three most recent funds. While at Claflin, Mr. Bird led over a dozen investments in early-stage technology companies. He was on the boards of e-Travel, Inc. which was sold to Oracle, Andover.net which went public in 1999 and subsequently merged with VA Linux, LinkSoft Technologies which was purchased by Quadramed, Nexcen Technologies which was purchased by UCMS, and Bitpipe, Inc. which was recently purchased by TechTarget. Prior to joining Claflin Capital Management, he spent 10 years at BankBoston in several varied capacities. He worked in the bank's energy division, two years managing an operational division of the bank's commercial loan portfolio, and three years in the bank's emerging markets investment banking group arranging capital markets financing for emerging markets companies. Mr. Bird graduated with a BA degree from Dartmouth College in 1980 and received his MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth in 1986. He is also a board member and past chairman of Crossroads for Kids, Chairman of the Town of Andover Open Space Committee, and is on the Advisory Board of the Trust for Public Land.
