Dr. Jill Walker, based in Canberra, works primarily in the field of trade practices or antitrust economics. She advises both regulatory agencies and private sector clients in relation to mergers and market conduct with potential competition implications. Jill�s advice has spanned a wide range of industries and includes the preparation of advice, reports, and submissions. Jill has given expert evidence in the Federal Court of Australia and the Australian Competition Tribunal.
Jill holds a BA in economics and a PhD in land economy from the University of Cambridge and an MA in economics from the University of Massachusetts.
In September 2001, Jill was appointed as a member of the Australian Competition Tribunal. In September 2006, she was reappointed for a second five-year term. In March 2005 and July 2005 respectively, Jill was appointed to the South Australian government�s panel of expert assessors assisting the district court in hearing appeals under the Essential Service Commission Act 2002 and the Gas Pipelines Access (South Australia) Act 1997.
Prior to joining LECG, Jill worked as a consultant for the Network Economics Consulting Group (NECG) and for CRA International. Prior to joining NECG, Jill was employed as economic adviser to the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), where she worked across the full range of the ACCC's activities, focusing particularly on matters involving Part IV of the Trade Practices Act 1974. This included the preparation of merger guidelines and the provision of advice on significant cases, investigations and authorisations. |
