Joanne Hinkel comes to Centerstage with a list of varied experiences in publishing and art. She has studied journalism and art history and has written for the Boston Phoenix, Stuff Magazine and Stuff at Night Magazine, and has been the Art Editor for F Newsmagazine, a monthly magazine run out of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Joanne sees her art content specialist gig at Centerstage as a perfect opportunity to try to dispel some myths surrounding fine art, mainly, the myth that you need to know about art to enjoy art. Because, after all, the art world is your world. Chicago's art scene is a pluralistic wonderland that includes up-start galleries, public murals and sculptures, artist collectives, open studios, performance-based organizations, and a plethora of galleries devoted to not just painting, but to glass, to ceramics, to photography, to video. And best of all, this art is usually free! Well, free to look at. Chicago's art scene is not just for other artists or just for rich people. It's for everyone. It's here for you. |
