Pro Career:
Originally a 2001 seventh-round draft choice (234th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed with Chicago�s practice squad after being waived by Tampa Bay on 9/2/01. Played three seasons in Chicago before being released during training camp on 8/25/04. After being signed briefly by Arizona and Atlanta, was out of football after being cut by the Falcons on 9/7/04. Re-signed with the Falcons on 1/8/05 and was claimed off waivers by Seattle on 3/24/05 after being released by Atlanta. Signed by the Cardinals to a one-year contract on 4/13/07.
2006: Played in 13 games for Seattle on special teams and defensive line, registering three tackles and one pass defensed; also recorded nine special teams stops and one fumble recovery declared inactive (knee) @ Chi (10/1), @ StL (10/15) and vs. Min (10/22) tallied all three tackles (two solo) and added two special teams tackles (one solo) vs. StL (11/12) recovered a fumble on a kickoff that resulted in a Seattle field goal in the fourth quarter on Sunday Night Football @ Den (12/3) appeared in both postseason games on special teams and registered two tackles.
2005: Appeared in 15 games for Seattle, starting one and finishing the season with 14 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble started in place of Bryce Fisher and recorded first and only sack of the season and forced his first career fumble vs. Phi (12/5) saw action in all three postseason games, including Super Bowl XL, recording one tackle against Was (1/14).
2004: Went to training camp with the Bears but was cut on 8/24 ... claimed by Arizona on 8/25 and cut by Cardinals on 8/31 signed by Atlanta on 9/2 and was released on 9/7 did not play the rest of season.
2003: Appeared in all 16 games for Chicago, finishing second on team with a career-high 14 special teams tackles; added 10 total tackles on defense totaled three special teams tackles vs. GB (9/29) recorded two tackles and one special teams tackle @ Sea (10/19) made three solo tackles, including one for loss at Den (11/23) fielded two short kickoffs for 24 yards @ GB (12/7) and posted one special teams tackle.
2002: Played in 14 games with one start for Chicago, recording eight total tackles and 11 special teams tackles led the Bears with three special teams tackles vs. GB (10/7) in his Monday Night Football debut shared his first career half sack @ Car (12/22) while adding one special teams tackle made first NFL start at defensive end vs. TB (12/29) while notching a career-high four tackles.
2001: Inactive for games 7-11 but played in final five regular-season games as a rookie for the Bears made NFL debut @ GB (12/9) on special teams contributed one special teams tackle vs. TB (12/16) and @ Was (12/23) collected his first career defensive tackle @ Det (12/30) made post season debut with three tackles in Divisional Playoff vs. Phi (1/19).
College:
Started 38 games over four-year career at Arizona finished collegiate career with 165 tackles and 24.5 sacks, earning All-Pac-10 Conference honors as junior and senior recorded 54 tackles and six sacks as senior posted 10 sacks as junior to go along with 51 tackles.
Personal:
Earned Blue Chip Illustrated All-America honors as senior at Pittsburg (CA) High School garnered all-BVAL and Super Prep all-Far West honors also lettered in baseball and track organized first-annual Joe Tafoya Football Camp for kids in grades 5-12 in his hometown during the 2004 offseason majored in Communications. |
