Mr. Coates is principally responsible for identification of suitable oil and gas acquisition and investment candidates, and geological, operational, and technical due diligence on potential acquisition or investment targets and the oversight of the asset operations of the Company. Immediately prior to co-founding Coronado, Mr. Coates was the technical leader and head of business development for Patrick Energy, which in 1998, he co-founded with the financial backing of U.E. Pat Patrick. During his six-year tenure, he continued to build a track record of success in emerging UCR basins. While at Patrick, Mr. Coates invested in six ground-floor UCR projects, primarily in the Mid-Continent which created a portfolio valued at $78 million from an investment of $17 million over five years. Before co-founding Patrick, Mr. Coates helped build and manage the UCR portfolio for MCN Investment Corp. (MCNIC). At MCNIC, Mr. Coates led the technical team that developed a 900 Bcf UCR portfolio from start-up in four years at total portfolio finding costs of less than $1.00 per thousand cubic foot. Prior to joining MCNIC, Mr. Coates worked for nine years as a consulting geologist, primarily for Advanced Resources International. Mr. Coates contributed to the original resource assessments for most of the commercial CBM, tight gas and shale producing basins in the U.S. He has authored technical papers on the subject and presented at many major industry conferences. The work Mr. Coates performed in the early days of CBM, shale and tight gas commercialization gave him broad exposure to the UCR business from both a technical and an economic development perspective and has placed him in a network of original UCR geologists, engineers and developers. This network has been an invaluable resource over the past twenty years, insuring that Mr. Coates remains on the forefront of opportunities, information and technology in the UCR business. Mr. Coates received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geochemistry from the University of London in 1984. He also completed the Masters Program at the Colorado School of Mines in Geological Engineering. |
