John B. Landis, Ph.D., is senior vice president, Pharmaceutical Sciences, for Schering-Plough Research Institute, the pharmaceutical research arm of Schering-Plough Corporation.
Landis joined Schering-Plough in his present position in September 2003. In this role, he is developing and implementing strategies for Schering-Plough Research Institute's pharmaceutical sciences function, comprising analytical, chemical, pharmaceutical, biological, global clinical supplies and the compliance and R&D quality assurance organizations. Landis is responsible primarily for developing active pharmaceutical ingredients, clinical trial and commercial formulations, and associated clinical supplies, including transfer of technology, to facilitate the approval and commercial launch of quality drug and biologic products.
Landis joined Schering-Plough from Pharmacia Corporation, where, as senior vice president, preclinical development, he led the global pharmaceutical sciences, drug metabolism and toxicology organizations. Previously, he was vice president, central nervous system (CNS) psychiatry, critical care and inflammation development, for Pharmacia & Upjohn.
He also had been employed by the Upjohn Company, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of analytical research, quality assurance and quality control.
Landis earned Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in analytical chemistry from Purdue University and a B.S. degree in chemistry from Kent State University.
