In July 2004, John B. Ramil was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of TECO Energy. In September 2003, Ramil was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of TECO Energy, Inc. This follows his promotion to Executive Vice President of the parent company in December 2002, a role he took on while retaining his title of President of Tampa Electric Company, a position he assumed in 1998.
Prior to assuming his presidency at Tampa Electric, he was Vice President-Finance and Chief Financial Officer for TECO Energy. He had served as Vice President-Energy Services and Planning for Tampa Electric, and has held a variety of positions in engineering, operations, marketing, customer service and environmental. He has also served as president of various other TECO Energy subsidiaries.
Ramil joined Tampa Electric in March 1976 as a cooperative education student while attending the University of South Florida, where he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and has attended Advanced Studies Programs at the University of Georgia and the Wharton School of Business.
In 2004, Ramil became chairman of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, he was appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush to the charter Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida. He is also on the Boards of the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group, the Southeastern Electric Exchange and the Tampa Bay Partnership.
He has been involved in several youth activities including coaching in soccer and baseball, and is also active with the American Heart Association, InRoads Tampa Bay, and the Tampa Bay History Center.
He is married and has a daughter and a son.
