John Hamilton is the former chairman of the law firm of Hale and Dorr, having served as managing partner of the firm for more than fifteen years. He has also served as chair of the Real Estate Department. Mr. Hamilton�s real estate practice involved both development and finance, as well as acquisitions, dispositions and leasing. He has served as outside counsel to Carpenter & Company, Inc. since 1968. From 1976 to 2004, Mr. Hamilton was general counsel of the Boston Museum of Science and a trustee of the Museum and a member of the Museum�s Executive Committee. He was chairman of the City Year/Boston Board, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Boston Lawyers Group, a director and treasurer of Massachusetts Biomedical Research Corporation, a director of Princeton Project 55, Inc., National Conference for Communities and Justice (Greater Boston region), a member of the American Bar Association President�s Advisory Council on Diversity, a member of the Advisory Council of the Society for Preservation of New England Antiquities, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Walden Woods Project. He has also been a trustee of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a member of the Concord Board of Appeals and the Board of Governors of the Concord Museum. Mr. Hamilton received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. degree, cum laude, from Princeton University. He served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. |
