John recently retired as Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of EnCana Corporation, one of North America's leading independent oil and gas companies with an enterprise value of approximately US $50 billion. As a member of the senior management team, he was directly responsible for EnCana's capital markets, financial reporting, financial compliance, financial risk management and internal audit, as well as the tax and treasury functions.
John is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta. He holds a BA from Concordia University in Montreal, an MBA from Queen's University in Kingston and an ICD.D. from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
After graduation and prior to joining EnCana and one of its legacy companies 30 years ago, John worked for a national investment dealer, Scotia Capital, and a national public accounting firm, Ernst & Young. He was one of the architects of the historic merger forming EnCana and has had extensive financial experience. John is a member of Financial Executives International and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of both Alberta and Ontario.
John is a director of the UTS Energy Corporation, a member of the Audit Committee of the Province of Alberta, past Chair of the Calgary Police Commission and a recipient of the City of Calgary's 2003 Calgary Award for Commerce. John also serves as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the South Alberta Light Horse Regiment.
Married for 38 years, John and his wife Marijke divide their living between their condo in downtown Calgary on the Bow River and their home in Canmore in the Rocky Mountains. Together they have two grown children and two grandchildren. John enjoys skiing, cycling, jogging, golf and tennis. |
