John David Whitaker is currently Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Modumetal, Inc. He holds a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering with Honors from Purdue University, as well as a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. As Modumetal's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Whitaker is responsible for all elements of Modumetal synthesis, developing process design and control strategies to ensure Modumetal possesses the desired nano- and micro-laminated structure.Dr. Whitaker previously served as Technical Director for Isotron Corporation, a Seattle-based firm that specializes in strippable coatings. At Isotron he was responsible for developing the long-term technology strategy for the company, which included growing the company's capabilities in electrochemical decontamination, detection, and alternative energy technologies. He served as program manager and/or principal investigator for several of Isotron's prime DoD contracts, with focuses ranging from porous media radionuclide decontamination to detection of radionuclides in water.Whitaker's passion for alternative energy and fuel cells led him to graduate school where he studied under Dr. Dan Schwartz at the University of Washington. There his research and thesis work resulted in "Electrochemical Printing", a patent-pending process for desktop printing of metallic micropatterns.Whitaker believes that the efforts of Modumetal will have a profound impact on the materials industry. According to Whitaker, Modumetal has the potential for reducing carbon emissions without compromising passenger safety by creating stronger, yet more lightweight material components for automobiles. He and his wife, Hillary, are the parents of a son, Max, and live in Seattle where he enjoys reading and his recently acquired hobby of brewing. |
