John E. McCann, Jr. is a principal in the firms Commercial and Business Litigation practice group. He has extensive experience with complex commercial litigation and counsels clients across a broad spectrum of issues including: antitrust litigation, software licensing disputes, patent and trademark litigation, commercial real estate disputes, dealer termination litigation and other forms of general contract and business tort disputes. Although his practice extends to a variety of commercial and business litigation, the primary focus of Mr. McCanns practice is antitrust litigation and counsel. He has counseled manufacturers, distributors, petroleum companies, telecommunications companies, transportation companies, health care providers and trade associations on a wide range of antitrust and trade regulation issues in the context of both private civil litigation and administrative enforcement. Although the major focus of his antitrust practice involves the defense and prosecution of antitrust cases in various federal and state courts, he also provides proactive antitrust advice directed toward finding solutions that support the clients strategic business objectives and competitive goals, while fully meeting applicable federal and state antitrust requirements. Mr. McCann is a seasoned litigator at both the trial and appellate levels. In addition, he has extensive experience in representing clients in various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including private mediation and commercial arbitration before the American Arbitration Association. Mr. McCann has been with Miles & Stockbridge his entire career. Since coming to the firm as an associate in 1991, he has developed his practice to provide litigation support for the firms transactional and corporate practice groups. As a result, he works closely with and draws from the expertise of the firms highly qualified business lawyers in handling the litigation needs of the firms clients. Through this interaction, he provides a comprehensive approach to litigation that goes beyond the narrow focus of the courtroom to see the bigger picture of the overall business needs and goals of his clients.
