John Tsavaris Biography :

Dr. John E. Tsavaris, II practices primarily in the prosecution of mechanical patent applications, including a concentration in medical devices, and is listed in the Guide to the World's Leading Patent Law Experts. In addition to his doctoral studies in biology, Dr. Tsavaris has more than 20 years of U.S. Navy and merchant marine experience in naval architecture and marine engineering.

Since joining Kenyon & Kenyon in 1987, Dr. Tsavaris has served on several Kenyon & Kenyon committees, is very active in pro bono activities and associate training and is the Moderator of Kenyon & Kenyon's highly praised Mentor Program. Because of his work in the Firm's Mentor Program, the New York State Bar Association honored Dr. Tsavaris with its Distinguished Service Award as the single most outstanding attorney in New York State in a law-related education program. Dr. Tsavaris was also awarded the Manhattan Borough President's Certificate of Volunteerism.

Dr. Tsavaris is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law and is on the Advisory Committee of the Fordham Intellectual Property Law Journal. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law in the Graduate Intellectual Property Program at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Dr. Tsavaris has been on the Faculty of both the Practising Law Institute and the Patent Resources Group for many years where he lectures and conducts clinics in the Patent Bar Review Course, and writes, edits, and updates the Patent Bar Review Course materials to incorporate recent changes in the patent law. In addition, he is currently co-authoring a text on Claim Drafting and Patent Prosecution for the Patent Resources Group. He has published several intellectual property articles.

Dr. Tsavaris is a Professor Emeritus of the Science and Mathematics Department of Columbia University. He is a member of the Okeanos Ocean Research Foundation, an elected member in the New York Academy of Sciences, and a frequent lecturer at schools and universities, including the Intellectual Property Center at the John Marshall School of Law.

Dr. Tsavaris also holds a Commission as a Commander in the United States Navy. He is a Naval Intelligence Officer with Top Secret/SCI Clearance. Shortly after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001, CDR Tsavaris was requested by name for recall to active duty with the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and the Joint Intelligence Task Force for Combating Terrorism (JITF-CT) of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), where he served as the Senior Detainee Interrogation Analyst. In 2004, CDR Tsavaris was selected for a "critical" Department of Defense assignment as the U.S. Naval Attach� to the U.S. Embassy in Malta. CDR Tsavaris has served as a Navy Protocol Officer, and in 1986 during the International Naval Review was assigned as an Escort Officer to President Reagan's Official Reviewing Party.
