John G. Turner is chairman of Hillcrest Capital Partners, a Minneapolis-based private equity investment firm he founded in May 2002, with his son, John F. Turner.
Turner retired from the insurance industry in 2001, having served as vice chairman for ING Americas and vice chairman of the ING U.S. Holdings Board since ING's 2000 acquisition of ReliaStar Financial Corp., a company in which he served 35 years. He was chairman and chief executive officer of ReliaStar (formerly Northwestern National Life Insurance Company) from 1991 to 2000, and chairman of several ReliaStar subsidiary companies.
He is past chairman of the American Council of Life Insurance and served the industry's largest trade organization in a variety of leadership positions. He is also past chairman of Life Office Management Association and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota.
Turner currently serves on the boards of Conseco, Hormel Foods, ING Funds, M.A. Mortenson and the Concord Coalition. He served for 17 years on the Hamline University Board of Trustees and as its chair for two years.
He has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Amherst College. He did graduate work at the University of Minnesota and attended the advanced management program at Harvard Business School. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. |
