Throughout his professional career, Mr. Herman has been highly involved with some of the U.S.A.'s top apparel and footwear manufacturers/ distributors. In 1979, he became Owner and CEO of Duffel Sportswear and InSport Activewear. He was a Partner at Danner Shoe Manufacturing from 1989 to 1996, the CEO of Sperry Topsider Apparel from 1982 to 1986, and handled marketing and merchandising for White Stag Manufacturing, and marketing for Jantzen, Inc. in his earlier career.
Mr. Herman left when InSport was sold in 1995. He continued with Duffel, also becoming the Principal of Herman Development Company, and has been the Managing Partner at Jepco Development Company since 1991. Mr Herman continues in those positions.
Mr. Herman was named Honorary Consulate of Belgium to Oregon and Idaho in 1993, and served as Dean of the organization in 1999. He also serves on the University of Oregon Foundation, and is a past President and Chairman.
Mr. Herman's civic involvements include the Vice Presidency of the Multnomah Athletic Club in 1989, the 1998 World Masters Games Finance Committee, an Oregon Sports Hall of Fame Board Member, current Trustee Chairman for Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland, the Oregon Club of Portland, the Aurora Colony Historical Society, Riverview Cemetery Association, President of Oregon Sports Authority, and Oregon Historical Society Boards.
