Dr. Stiles joined Integrated Coffee Technologies, Inc. as Chief Scientific Officer in January of 2001. He had previously served in this capacity since 1997 on an acting basis while on leave from the University of Hawaii. Dr. Stiles has over 30 years of experience in genetics, molecular biology and biotechnology and has been involved in research in the area of coffee biotechnology for the past fourteen years. His current research involves development of a caffeine-free coffee and using biotechnology and genetics to improve agronomic traits in coffee. Dr. Stiles received a bachelor's degree in Botany from Indiana University in 1970 and a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Cornell University in 1976. Dr. Stiles held positions at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and Indiana State University before joining the faculty of the Department of Plant Molecular Physiology at the University of Hawai'i in 1983 where he served as Department Chairman from 1992 through 1996 before joining Integrated Coffee. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Association for Science and Information on Coffee, the professional organization for coffee science (www.asic-cafe.org) and based in Paris, and the Board of Trustees for the Specialty Coffee Institute (www.coffeeinstitute.org). |
