Description of Practice:
John J. Allen is a partner in the Los Angeles office, where he is a member of the environmental practice group. Mr. Allen has built a diverse environmental private practice which includes advising and representing clients in all key substantive areas, specializing in environmental compliance counseling and litigation of federal and state liability claims. With fourteen years experience as general counsel in the private sector, Mr. Allen has gained valuable insight into client needs and expectations, as well as how to work successfully within the regulatory process. In addition to his general knowledge of federal, state and local environmental requirements in his area of practice, Mr. Allen has developed a good working relationship with many of the staff members of various government agencies. He works regularly with the Regional Water Quality Control Boards in California, the South Coast Air Quality Management District and both the state and federal EPA.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Mr. Allen headed the Environmental Practice Group for the Los Angeles office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal and Graham & James LLP. Prior to entering private practice in 1990, he was corporate counsel for Landsea Oil Company, a private petroleum marketing firm and for The IT Group, one of the Country's leading environmental firms.
Educational History:
Mr. Allen graduated cum laude from California State University at Long Beach in 1970 and earned his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1976. |
