John J. Dooner, Jr. has been Chairman and CEO of McCann Worldwide since 1995 and of McCann Worldgroup since 1997, except for three years at McCann parent, The Interpublic Group, where he held the titles of President and later Chairman and CEO. He rejoined McCann in 2003.
John first joined McCann Erickson in 1984 as a Worldwide Account Director and was promoted to General Manager of McCann New York the following year. After a stint as President of McCann North America, he was named Worldwide
President and Chief Operating Officer in 1992 and subsequently Chairman and CEO in 1995. Two years later he created and launched McCann Worldgroup, today one of the world�s leading marketing communications companies.
Earlier in his career, John was with Interpublic�s Marschalk (now Lowe & Partners Worldwide), rising to Executive VP, Director of Account Management and Board member over his 10-plus years there.
An industry leader, John is a former Vice Chairman and current Chairman of The Ad Council, and past member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A�s) and Advertising Education Foundation (AEF). He is on the Boards of the Sound Shore Medical Center and St. Thomas University, from which he graduated with a B.A. Additionally he is a Charter member of the President�s Advisory Council of CARE and a member of the Ireland Council of the University of Notre Dame.
