John Jay Shannon, M.D., serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Parkland Health & Hospital System. He came to Parkland after more than a decade at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where he served as senior attending physician and associate chairman of medicine for Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine. Shannon graduated cum laude from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, with a bachelor's degree in biology. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in 1986, completed his internship, residency and chief residency at Parkland and his specialty training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. Shannon is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Thoracic Society and the Society for Critical Care Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine. In 2005 he was given the Public Health Service Award by the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago. |
