John leads Faegre�s global trademark prosecution and counseling practice. He has more than 30 years of experience in trademark law and related licensing and litigation, and in many other disciplines of Intellectual Property law. John has been responsible for several large naming projects, including clearance and registration of new company names for several prominent Minnesota corporations. He has had substantial experience in a wide range of industries including: banking, insurance, advertising and public relations, international publishing, certification programs, computers and telecommunications, medical products, restaurants, boat manufacturing and sports tournaments. John also has extensive experience with due diligence studies and registering and managing large U.S. and foreign trademark portfolios. John has filed and prosecuted well over 1,000 federal trademark applications and has conducted many thousands of availability searches. He also has substantial experience with administering major trademark and copyright licensing and enforcement programs. Prior to joining Faegre & Benson, John was a senior vice president and a former chair of the trademark practice at the Minneapolis-based IP law firm, Merchant & Gould. Prior to moving to Minneapolis over a decade ago, he was as an intellectual property partner at the firm of Michael, Best & Friedrich and was a shareholder and group head of the IP practice at Godfrey & Kahn in Milwaukee.
