John Collard is chairman of Strategic Management Partners, an Annapolis, MD-based turnaround management firm specializing in corporate renewal, strategic repositioning, transition into new markets, defense conversion, investor post acquisition support, and M&A. He is an expert in interim executive leadership, change management, corporate governance, strategy formulation, and equity investing in underperforming companies. He has 35 years operating experience in rapid growth, transition and turnaround environments; can account for new business totaling over $670mil systems integration plus $250mil commercial; asset recovery of $85mil; participated in over 40 transactions (acquire, divest, roll-up, IPO) worth $730mil; and has been exposed to private equity investing management through co-raising and co-managing an $80mil venture fund. John has strong operational leadership, strategic planning, financial, sales and marketing acumen developed building organizations in large and small companies, including as President of public & private middle-market companies providing solutions to Commercial, Federal, International, and Privatization market segments. He has been a board member and advisor of privately held companies in repositioning or turnaround situations, and private equity investment funds. He is Past Chairman of the Board of the Turnaround Management Association. He is one of only 300 individuals to earn the Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation. He and SMP have been twice named among the 'Top 12 Outstanding Turnaround Management Firms' by Turnarounds & Workouts Magazine.
