John MacDonald Biography :

John M. MacDonald is Vice President Energy Delivery and Generation for Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU).

MacDonald is responsible for the oversight of the company's Energy Delivery Division, providing engineering, maintenance and capital improvements of the electric system; and the Generation Division, comprised of three steam generation stations and nine hydroelectric stations.

A native of Old Lyme, Connecticut, MacDonald is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He holds a master of business administration degree from the University of New Haven and is a graduate of Penn State's Executive Management Program and Leadership New Hampshire class of 2003.

MacDonald joined NU in 1981 as an engineer, after serving as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserves and in the U.S. Merchant Marines, achieving the rank of chief engineer. Since that time, he has held various positions at NU in the areas of engineering, planning, maintenance and hydroelectric power. In 1995, he assumed the role of director of Generation with overall responsibility for PSNH's power plant facilities. In this position he led the division to higher levels of environmental compliance programs, such as the first U.S. application of SCR technology, as well as multi-fuel diversification programs. He assumed his present position on May 1, 2001. He has expanded the PSNH distribution line network and substations to maintain reliability of service to 480,000 customers in New Hampshire, while moving forward to interconnect more renewable power sources and diversify PSNHs generation fleet to include cost-effective, biomass wood burning capabilities.

MacDonald is a member of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). He currently is serving his third term on the New Hampshire Air Resources Council and has been appointed to the Gulf of Maine Council as a Private Sector representative. MacDonald is a past Chair of the board of directors of Special Olympics New Hampshire. He is an active supporter of the American Lung Association, the Easter Seals VIP program since 1995 and the United Way for the past 25 years.
