Mr. Broadhurst, a partner in the Firm�s Business Department, was one of the Firm�s first associates, joining it in 1978 after graduating from Stanford Law School with honors. He became a partner in 1985.
He began his practice counseling clients on all types of business transactions, including acquisitions, venture capital financings, public offerings and intellectual property matters. Over time, his practice has focused increasingly on counseling clients in the financial services industry, principally investment advisory firms.
Mr. Broadhurst and his partner, Doug Hammer, helped a number of highly successful money managers form hedge funds in the 1980s. These efforts, together with the services they provided to more traditional investment advisory firms, enabled them to establish a national reputation as a leading firm in this industry. Partners Chris Rupright, Carolyn Reiser, Neil Koren and Jim Frolik who joined the firm in 1991, 1994, 1999 and 2000 respectively, have also focused their practices in this area, enabling this practice group to continue to expand and thrive.
Mr. Broadhurst counsels his investment advisory clients on a wide variety of issues, including the formation and operation of investment advisory firms, investment limited partnerships, offshore funds and other investment vehicles, employee compensation and regulatory compliance. He continues to be listed in the International Who�s Who of Private Funds Lawyers which features only the foremost practitioners.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Broadhurst is an active member of the American Bar Association�s Task Force on Private Investment Entities. He speaks often at conferences throughout the country regarding investment advisers, hedge funds and offshore funds.
Mr. Broadhurst served as the Chairperson of the Hedge Funds Care West Coast Benefit Dinner in 2002 (Inaugural) and 2003 (Co Chair), and he serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Hedge Funds Care, as well as the Board of Directors of Hedge Funds Care (Cayman Islands). Hedge Funds Care is an alliance of hedge fund industry professionals committed to protecting children from abuse and neglect.
EDUCATION
Mr. Broadhurst received an A.B. degree from Denison University, Granville, Ohio, in 1975 and a J.D. from Stanford University in 1978, where he graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. He currently serves on the Executive Committee on the Board of Visitors of Stanford University Law School. |
