John (Jack) R. Perraton, CM, Q.C., is a senior partner of the Calgary office of PerratonLaw and has a corporate commercial practice that concentrates on strategic business advice, corporate restructuring, securities issues, contract negotiation and oil and gas law. He has worked extensively with clients in the oil and gas industry on complex business negotiations, securities matters and strategic planning. His practice, to a large degree, has involved working with boards and upper management of both public and private corporate entities of varying sizes. As well he has extensive experience in international negotiations and diplomacy in many countries.
Mr. Perraton is also very active in several professional associations and community organizations. He acted as the Chairman of the Canada 2005 Exposition Corporation, Canada's bid to host a World's Fair in 2005. He has been the recipient of many awards in recognition of his community and professional service, including the distinguished service award from the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association (Alberta) in 1996 and being named as Calgary's Citizen of the Year for 1997. In June 1998, Mr. Perraton was appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Calgary, and in October 1999 was named as the Honourary Counsel General for Korea in Alberta. In 2001, Mr. Perraton was made a member of the Order of Canada and in 2003, received an Alumni Honour Award from the University of Alberta.
Mr. Perraton belongs to the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Assist Program; Calgary Herald Advisory Board; the Board of Governors of the University of Calgary; Chair, Kids Cancer Care Foundation, Member of the Jubilee Auditoria Foundation Board and member of the Community Advisory Board of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute.
