John serves as co-chair of the Intellectual Property group. He provides clients with counseling and strategy concerning the procurement, defense and enforcement of patents and trademarks, and has extensive experience in litigation and dispute resolution in both of these areas. John has successfully handled a diverse range of federal and state litigation claims on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in the areas of patents, copyrights, trade secrets, employment contracts, unfair competition, warranties, product configuration and trademarks. His experience includes managing cases that involve international and multi-national litigation. In addition, John provides opinions in patent and trademark matters. He has participated in Markman hearings and has argued successfully before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as well. A member of the American and Ohio Bar Associations, John is also actively involved in the American and Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Associations. He has been named as one of America's Leading Lawyers by Chambers USA. He is a CYO Athletic coach and has served as a board member of the Brecksville Center for the Arts. John began his career as an attorney with Jones Day from 1989-1993. He first joined Calfee in 1993 and remained with the firm until 2001, leaving to join McDonald, Hopkins Co., LPA. John returned to Calfee in 2003 and was elected to the firm's executive committee in 2006 |
