John T. Kernan joined the Varsity Group Board of Directors in March 2002.
Mr. Kernan holds a B.S. from Loyola College and has over 35 years of experience in the information technology industry, including numerous roles with Fortune 500 companies.
Mr. Kernan served as Vice President of Product Development for Deltak, Inc., now part of Thomson NETg, a leader in online training. He is a co-founder of GMS, Inc., now called CSG Systems, the largest cable television software company. Moreover, is the founder of Education Systems Corporation that, while under his leadership, was sold to Jostens and grew to $250 million in revenues.
Mr. Kernan is also a co-founder of Lightspan Inc. (NASDAQ:LSPN) that merged with PLATO Learning, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTR) in 2003 to create the largest education software company in the nation. He served as Chief Executive Officer from September 1993 until November 2003 and currently serves on the Board of Directors.
Among Mr. Kernan�s list of distinctions are titles such as "Educator of the Decade" given by Electronic Learning magazine and regional "Entrepreneur of the Year named by Inc. magazine.
