John T. Ryan III, (63), is chairman of the Board and chief executive officer of MSA and chairman of MSA's executive committee. He joined MSA in 1969 and from 1974 to 1986 served in the company's International Division covering operations in South America, Asia and the Middle East. Mr. Ryan was executive vice president from 1986 to 1990, overseeing the company's U.S. operations. He was elected president of MSA in 1990, and in 1991 assumed the additional responsibilities of chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Ryan graduated from the University of Notre Dame and received an MBA from Harvard University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Executive Committee of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, and vice chairman of the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. Mr. Ryan also is a member of the Advisory Council of the College of Business at the University of Notre Dame, a past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Industrial Safety Equipment Association and past chairman of the Pittsburgh Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Mr. Ryan became a director of MSA in 1981. |
