John Stankey, group president-operations support at AT&T Inc., has a broad portfolio of responsibilities that include planning, building and maintaining AT&T's domestic and global technology infrastructure, both wireline and wireless, including the company's landmark initiative to provide fiber-based IP video services to 18 million households by 2008. Mr. Stankey also holds responsibility for AT&T Labs as well as corporate supply chain and real estate functions.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Stankey was chief information officer at SBC Communications Inc. with responsibility for corporate-wide information technology functions, including data center operations, e-business directions and implementation, software engineering, billing systems design and billing operations. Mr. Stankey has also served as president and CEO of AT&T's Southwest region and president of Industry Markets, AT&T's wholesale division.
Mr. Stankey began his career with Pacific Bell in 1985, where he held a variety of positions in sales and service, network operations, information technology, video operations, engineering, and corporate support.
In addition to his AT&T responsibilities, Mr. Stankey serves on the board of directors of 2Wire, Inc., an innovator in developing integrated solutions to deliver broadband service and content throughout the home or small office.
A native of California, Mr. Stankey earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles in 1985, and a master's degree in business administration and management of information systems from UCLA in 1991.
He and his wife, Shari, have a daughter and two sons. |
