Dr. Peters is one of the leading authorities on the structure and catalytic mechanism of iron hydrogenase enzymes. He has authored numerous seminal publications on the topic of hydrogenase structure and mechanism, and published the first structure of an iron hydrogenase in the journal Science in 1998. In the short period since its publication, the work has been cited in the primary literature more than 175 times. Subsequent studies in Dr. Peters' laboratory have contributed significant insights into the biochemical mechanism of the enzyme and its inhibition by carbon monoxide. Dr. Peters has been the recipient of the Camille Dreyfus Teacher/Scholar Award and the Pfizer Atorvastatin Research Award. Dr. Peters received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and performed postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology. |
