J.D. Dobson is a government relations manager in Drinker Biddle�s Washington, D.C. office. He has extensive government and policy experience, and knowledge in a broad range of areas including health care, telecommunications, environmental policy, national security and international affairs.
Before coming to Drinker Biddle, J.D. was with the leading private intelligence firm Stratfor. He was the primary analyst responsible for energy, climate change and clean air policy in the company's public policy intelligence unit, and he provided advice and analysis to the firm�s clients on a range of political issues.
J.D. began his career in Washington, D.C., working first as a staff aide in the personal office of U.S. Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond and then was promoted to legislative assistant responsible for policy issues and appropriations under the jurisdiction of the Interior Department, Forest Service and FCC. He developed policy recommendations, evaluated appropriations requests and maintained extensive contact with constituents, interest groups and government agencies.
J.D. received his master�s degree in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and his bachelor�s degree in political science from the University of Missouri Columbia. He has studied Spanish, Russian and Arabic formally, and practiced the latter while living in Beirut, Lebanon.
