John Hsuan is Vice Chairman Emeritus at UMC. Mr. Hsuan joined UMC in 1982 as the Director of Sales and was promoted to President of UMC in September 1991. In 1998 Mr. Hsuan became co-CEO of UMC and in 2001 he became Vice-Chairman of UMC. Prior to joining UMC he was Marketing Manager for Taiwan's Electronic Research Service Organization (ERSO). He holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from National Chiao Tung University and holds 14 patents related to integrated circuit processes and applications with many others still pending.
Throughout his professional career Mr. Hsuan has served in leadership positions in various organizations including chairing the Taipei Electronic Components Suppliers' Association for over six years. He has received many honors recognizing his outstanding business achievements. In 1985 he received the "Most Outstanding Marketing Manager Award" from the Chinese Association for the Advancement of Management (CAAM) and in 1999 he was awarded the prestigious Feng-Chang Leu Memorial Award by the Chinese Management Association. He was selected as the Prominent Alumnus of National Chiao Tung University in 1995 and in 2001 received an honorary doctorate also from NCTU. |
