An educator in one form or another throughout his career, Jon Abeles joined CHP in 1998 as senior vice president, Learning and Development. He assumed his current position in 2005. Dr. Abeles possesses significant operational expertise, coupled with experience in training and development, competency assessment, learning technologies, organizational effectiveness and increasing capacity for change. He has partnered with senior CHP leaders especially regional CEOs and chief learning, human resources and nursing executives to identify and implement human resources and learning/development strategies that enhance CHP's culture, improve its organizational design and augment skill sets.
Prior to joining CHP, Dr. Abeles spent 17 years within the Bell System, working in increasingly responsible positions focusing on operations, training and education, labor relations, management employment and career development and becoming corporate vice president (acting), Training, Education and Development for Bell Atlantic after serving as executive director, Organization Effectiveness. He was instrumental in creating NYNEX University to foster joint labor and management education and served as its executive director for three years.
Dr. Abeles earned an Ed.D. in educational leadership and change, as well as an Ed.M. from Columbia University. He holds a master's degree in educational communications and a bachelor's degree in social studies education from The Ohio State University. A Vietnam veteran, Dr. Abeles is a captain in the Naval Reserve and has served as a special consultant to the Chief of Naval Education and Training. Since joining CHP, he has earned national recognition in the areas of organizational learning and knowledge management, serving on various advisory boards of the National Science Foundation and the board of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning. |
