Mr. Bass brings more than thirty years of trial and appellate experience to the representation of the firm's clients. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a broad range of cases involving securities, antitrust, real estate, eminent domain, bank operations, and general business matters. Securities and Antitrust Mr. Bass has broad experience in defending officers and directors, businesses and institutions in securities, antitrust, and other high-stakes litigation. Representative matters include the defense of a $500 million fraud action arising out of the sale of assets of a health care business, defense of the chief executive officer of a real estate syndication group in securities fraud claims seeking hundreds of millions of dollars, representation of a plaintiff in U.S. District Court in a multimillion dollar securities case, and the trial to a successful verdict of a Sherman Act conspiracy claim. Real Estate Mr. Bass has successfully defended numerous development project approvals against challenge under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), as well as state and local land use laws. Representative matters include the representation of an owner of an office building in an eminent domain jury trial, in which his client obtained one of the largest eminent domain awards in the history of California, representation of the owner of a large parcel of property in a complex eminent domain action presenting issues of valuation and development potential of the property, and recovery on behalf of an owner of an office building in actions against property owners and construction contractors arising out of a landslide. |
