Joe was a founding partner of the firm in 1971. Prior to starting Smith & Howard, he was with an international accounting firm. Joe provides tax and advisory counsel to individuals and businesses, with an emphasis on tax planning. Joe holds a Master of Public Accountancy from Georgia State University and a BBA with a major in accounting from the University of Georgia, where he lettered in baseball. Joe is a member of the AICPA and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he is Trustee of the Insurance Trust. He is also a member of the Georgia Federal Tax Conference, the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, the Atlanta Tax Forum, and the National Association of Estate Planning Council. Among Joe's community activities are the Phoenix Society the Marist School Planned Gifting Committee, the UGA President's Club and Gridiron, and the Georgia Transplant Foundation. Joe and his wife are members of Cathedral of Christ the King. When not working, Joe can most often be found spending time with his grandchildren; he also enjoys golf and gardening. |
